Van Wyck Junior High School Career Fair 2024

We are seeking any and all local professionals who are willing to volunteer their time to share knowledge of their industry and profession with 8th grade students. 

What to Expect:

• Three forty minute sessions of 8th grade students (~ 400 total) - Students will rotate between the gymnasium (Career Fair - where all vendors will be set up), cafeteria (BOCES presentation), and auditorium (DCC presentation). 

• Interviews from students - Students will fill out an activity form where they ask representatives questions about their profession and industry.

What to Bring:

Knowledge of your profession and industry is the most important item. We also ask that you bring a friendly smile and an easy hello to students who may be hesitant about approaching adults they do not know.

The following are not required, but can be helpful:

• Any sort of visual aid or handout about your profession

• Materials available in both English and Spanish

• Any interactive activities

If you need an electrical outlet for your computer, TV/DVD, or other item, please let us know in advance. We will ensure a convenient location and extension cords to meet your needs. We do have public wireless access in the building, however it may be slow.

Representatives should enter through the entrance located at the far right of the building (shown as a green arrow). We have reserved parking for vendors located to the right of the building (shown as a yellow rectangle). Please enter through the gymnasium lobby (shown as blue dot).

Representatives may enter the building for setup as early as 6:45am. Students will begin to arrive for the fair at 7:35 am. Please be aware that access to parking becomes difficult between 7:10-7:30 am as buses enter and leave the parking lot.

During setup and while networking with other professionals, please enjoy a continental breakfast compliments of Van Wyck’s PTSA.
