Organization Overview
Hawthorne Valley Association is a nonprofit organization located on a 900-acre Demeter-certified Biodynamic farm in Ghent, New York. Founded in 1971, Hawthorne Valley operates a working dairy farm and creamery producing certified organic and Biodynamic milk, yogurt, cheeses, and other dairy products. Its enterprises also include an organic bakery, a full-service natural foods store, and a 300-member organic and Biodynamic CSA.
In addition to food production and retail, Hawthorne Valley operates a Waldorf school serving students from early childhood through grade 12, on-farm educational programs for children and adults, teacher education, scientific and social research programs, and arts and cultural initiatives. Together, these activities support regional agriculture, education, environmental stewardship, and community life in New York’s Hudson Valley.
